When I bought 5 yards of some of these fabrics I never dreamed I would be using them this long (6 years). I finally said to myself that I really do not have to continue sewing them or the scraps or the 2" squares I cut from the scraps. So, a lot of precut pieces went into the bag too. I am seriously over taupe & greyed down fabrics. The breaking point was looking at the 3 quilts I still have to quilt that are predominantly taupe and feeling like "I can hardly stand the idea" so I knew I didn't want any more charity tops with those colors. Now I am free to use colors I enjoy. I am certain there are others who will enjoy getting quilts in those colors too.
Good for you! I know it is hard for me to get rid of any fabric, because I *might* be able to use it someday, even if it is super ugly or I hate it. Then it is a battle...well, someone else might like it, and why not donate it so it *does* get used vs. I might find a good use for it, and what if fabric is gets too expensive that I cannot ever purchase more--then I would wish I still had this....
Oh, my. I have even put fabric out in the bag that goes to Goodwill, only to pluck it back out a few days later, then put it back in...it can be a vicious cycle. The best thing I can do is put it in a bag, give it to my husband to take it right to the donation center... and then I don't think about it any more. Out of sight, out of mind.
I feel rather foolish sharing this true confession, when I know there are more important things to occupy my thoughts and prayers.
Yippee!
ReplyDeleteI bet that felt good!

ReplyDeleteBravo! That's probably something we should all do. I bet it felt like a weight was lifted off of your shoulders.
ReplyDeleteEvery time a bag or box or bin goes out the door I feel that much lighter. It's a wonderful feeling. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteWhooppeeee! I feel the same way every time I take a bag of something to the thrift store to donate.
